Assembly Ways and Means committee hearing on AB 224 which should bring funding for a new unified school to White Pine County

On Saturday, May 24th, while most of us were enjoying the long weekend, legislators traveled to Carson City to consider a lot of legislation.  One of those bills is AB224, a mechanism that might bring White Pine County the remaining funding needed to build a new school to replace our aging David E. Norman Elementary and White Pine Middle Schools.   This is a hand up, not a hand out.  Assemblyperson Erica Mosca of East Las Vegas brought this bill forward.  Listen to how many people speak glowingly about our school district.

If it hit the fan like it did in Western North Carolina, would you be prepared?

After a week, people in Western North Carolina have no power, internet, or reliable cell service.  What's keep them informed?  Radio.

Radio is a lifeline, but how can you be connected to the lifeline if you don't HAVE a radio?  Sadly, people think of radio as an antiquity, a relic of the past.  But when push comes to shove, radio will be here long after the other devices have failed.

But how do you get a radio?  What little retail business we have in White Pine County doesn't even sell them.  Well, The Greek might, but the others?  Nope.

Try this inexpensive radio.  Under $20, uses 2 AA batteries.   Add this to your next Amazon order. (I know you're shopping Amazon and not local.  It's no secret.)

If nothing else, you might learn some truths that Facebook and TikTok won't tell you.  Because they don't give a damn about you.  You know that.

Dysfunctional County Commission has lunch-possible

During the break of the April 16, 2025 County Commission meeting, four of the five commissioners had lunch together, captured by a local citizen on camera.  This is a potential Open Meetings Law and Ethics Violation, particularly if any County business was discussed during the lunch...

Here are links to news and commentary on the meeting.

To opponents of replacing the two hundred year old schools...

 Disgraceful.

The fact that we have two county commissioners who refuse to acknowledge that we have two schools built before World War I still in active service and need to be replaced because the renovation costs would exteed the replacement costs, that is disgraceful.

The good news is Assembly Bill 224 has passed out of committee with additional sponsors.  That means we might be able to get the bonds with no additional cost to citizens of White Pine County.  And yet, Commissioner Dirt and Commissioner Sheep fail to understand the crisis.  Watch this presentation video and realize the danger that opponents are putting our children -- our future - in.
