A whopping ¾ of an inch of badly needed rain fell in the last 24 hours with a chance for more coming in tonight.  The Wind advisory has been extended again, now until 7pm Friday night.  More rain coming with the snow level falling to 6800 feet and today’s high just 48.

The Ministerial Association is inviting the community to a free Christmas Day dinner this afternoon at the Bristlecone Convention Center, located at 150 Sixth Street. The meal will be served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with doors opening at 10:30 a.m.

Organizers are also looking for volunteer servers and can arrange home delivery for those unable to attend in person. Anyone interested in volunteering or requesting a delivery can contact Barbara Nelson at 775-293-0749. Cash donations to support the event are also greatly appreciated.

A reminder that following President Trump’s declaration of December 24th and December 26th as temporary Federal holidays, White Pine County is following suit, as all county offices, including the library, will be closed until Monday.

The changing weather is a good cue for drivers to double-check their winter travel kit before heading out. Safety officials say essentials should include warm blankets or extra clothing, water, nonperishable food, a flashlight with extra batteries, a phone charger, basic first-aid supplies, an ice scraper, jumper cables, a shovel, and sand or kitty litter to help with traction if you get stuck.

Drivers lined up Tuesday in Elko after a gas station dropped prices as part of a one-day community giveaway. The Sinclair station at 2500 Alta Vista sold regular unleaded and diesel for two dollars a gallon from noon to 6 p.m., backing traffic onto nearby streets as motorists waited their turn.

The station’s owners say the temporary price cut was their way of giving back to the community, even as gas prices elsewhere in eastern Elko County dipped as low as $1.76 a gallon during ongoing fuel price competition.

A new internal poll from Washoe County Commission Chair Alexis Hill’s gubernatorial campaign shows her trailing Attorney General Aaron Ford by double digits in the Democratic primary, but suggests potential room for growth. The survey found Ford with 48 percent support to Hill’s 13 percent, though Hill’s numbers doubled to 26 percent after voters heard positive messaging about both candidates.

The poll of Democratic primary voters also shows strong appetite for economic change, with large majorities favoring tougher stances on corporations and a governor willing to challenge the status quo. Ford remains the front-runner with broad party support as he eyes a 2026 run against Governor Joe Lombardo, while Hill continues to position herself as a progressive alternative focused on sweeping policy reforms.

A Powerball ticket sold in Arkansas matched all the winning numbers in Christmas Eve’s drawing, claiming the massive $1.817 billion jackpot. The prize carries an estimated cash value of nearly $835 million, making it the second-largest lottery jackpot ever won in U.S. history.

Lottery officials say eight additional tickets nationwide won $1 million each by matching five numbers, while more than 140 other tickets scored prizes ranging from $50,000 to $100,000. The only bigger jackpot on record remains the $2.04 billion prize won in California in 2022.

The jackpot resets to JUST $20 million for Saturday’s drawing…

And in Logandale, Nevada, a manger scene became a Royal Rumble of sorts..

Two young boys from Logandale went viral this holiday season after an unexpected moment during a school nativity play stole the show. Video of the playful scuffle—dubbed online as the “Bethlehem Brawl”—has racked up more than 25 million views on social media.

The moment happened during the manger scene, when four-year-old Throttle, dressed as a bull, and three-year-old Swain, dressed as a pig, began tugging at each other’s costumes on stage. Their families say the boys are close friends and the wrestling was harmless, adding that even the kids admit it was all in good fun.
