Several new Nevada laws passed during the 2025 legislative session will take effect January first, covering elections, health care, housing and voting access.

Among them, Assembly Bill 73 requires political ads using artificial intelligence to clearly disclose manipulated audio, video or images. Other new laws expand insurance coverage for speech therapy and autism treatment, strengthen protections for reproductive health care, and create a free state ID program for people experiencing homelessness. Additional measures require voting materials in more languages and expand data collected for redistricting, marking a wide-ranging set of changes heading into 2026.

Governor Joe Lombardo’s Safe Streets and Neighborhoods Act also becomes law, increasing penalties for crimes including DUI causing death, stalking, and harassment.

Other changes include stricter rules for so-called ghost kitchens on food delivery apps, new safety regulations for bounce houses, updated worker protections during heavy wildfire smoke, and changes allowing insurers to offer separate wildfire coverage.

The White Pine County Sheriff’s Office is reporting multiple incidents from Tuesday.

Deputies are investigating a domestic battery reported in the city, where a victim said they were assaulted by a domestic partner. A fraud case is also under investigation after a caller impersonating a law enforcement officer allegedly tried to obtain bail money through an online currency app.

Other reports included insufficient-funds checks passed at a local business, a harassment complaint at a workplace, and a disturbance at a city residence that resulted in a warning for disturbing the peace. The sheriff’s office also reports two bookings: Jesus A. Rosales Perez, serving time on a previous arrest, and Cesar D. Gonzalez-Moreno, arrested by Nevada State Police with bail set at 618 dollars.

Nevada casinos posted one of their strongest months on record in November, winning $1.35 billion from gamblers — the tenth-highest total in state history. More than half came from the Las Vegas Strip, which brought in $784 million, also ranking tenth all time.

Gaming officials say steady slot play drove the gains, especially multi-denomination machines, even as tourism dipped. Since July, statewide casino winnings are nearly three percent ahead of last year’s pace, showing continued strength despite slower summer visitation.

A one-year-old child is recovering after ingesting fentanyl and becoming unresponsive Tuesday evening in Winnemucca, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Authorities say a 911 call came in around 5:45 p.m. reporting the child was not breathing. Members of the Tri-County Drug Enforcement Team arrived within minutes, where a man handed officers the unresponsive child and reported fentanyl exposure. Detectives administered naloxone and performed CPR, giving a second dose before the child began breathing. The child was transported to a local hospital; their condition has not been released.

Investigators say the child’s mother left the scene and was later involved in a crash with a commercial vehicle on I-80 west of Winnemucca. The driver, identified as 31-year-old Lesley Keever, was arrested on multiple charges. The incident remains under investigation.

While gas prices in West Wendover remain around $2 per gallon, another drop in the price of 85 octane regular hit late yesterday afternoon.  Golden Gate lead the way but Loves and others quickly followed the lower price to $2.79 per gallon.  The national average of a gallon of gas has fallen again to $2.83 per gallon and the average in Nevada has dropped to $3.38 per gallon.
