Six wild horses from Nevada’s public lands have been spared from slaughter in Mexico, but nine others are still at risk. A national rescue group says all 15 horses were discovered in a Texas “kill pen” after being rounded up from the Triple B Complex in Nevada.
Skydog Sanctuary says public attention delayed shipment for six of the animals, but the remaining nine are scheduled to be shipped Monday. Rescue groups say they’re overwhelmed, with facilities already full of untrained mustangs and few places left for the horses to go.
The Bureau of Land Management says it’s investigating how the animals ended up there. Federal law prohibits wild horses from being sold for slaughter, and advocates are urging authorities to prosecute those responsible.
