The Ely City Council will have a special meeting on Thursday at 5pm in the Volunteer Fire Hall to approve a City Gaming License for a William Hill Race and Sports Book kiosk in the Hotel Nevada. The matter was on last weeks meeting agenda but had to be tabled to correct the Hotel’s address. The kiosk has already been approved by the state Gaming commission.
White Pine County Sheriff’s deputies handled a variety of calls across Ely and the county on Sunday.
In the city, officers responded to reports of suspicious activity, alarms, and two separate vehicle crashes, with no major issues reported. Several domestic disturbance calls were also investigated.
One incident led to the arrest of 28-year-old Rodney Lesher Junior of Ely on charges including domestic battery, battery on a protected person, and resisting and obstructing a public officer. His bail is set at 85-hundred dollars.
In a separate case, 43-year-old Deleah Kaamasee was arrested following a traffic stop for driving on a suspended license, with bail set at 740 dollars.
Deputies also handled a theft report, a barking dog complaint, and a welfare check on a juvenile, who was reported safe.
Nevada’s race for the state’s only Republican-held congressional seat is taking shape, with major endorsements boosting one candidate.
Governor Joe Lombardo and Congressman Mark Amodei are backing former state Senate Minority Leader James Settelmeyer in the crowded GOP primary for the 2nd Congressional District.
The endorsements give Settelmeyer support from two of Nevada’s top Republicans, even as rival David Flippo picks up backing from national conservative figures, including allies of President Donald Trump.
The district leans Republican, but analysts say the primary could highlight a divide between establishment conservatives and more MAGA-aligned candidates.
The NFL says the Super Bowl is returning to Las Vegas. Super Bowl 63 will be played at Allegiant Stadium in 2029. The announcement came Monday during the NFL's Annual Meeting in Phoenix. This will be the second time the league's championship game will be held in Vegas. In February 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in Super Bowl 58.
A Las Vegas performer is taking legal action against pop superstar Taylor Swift over her latest album branding.
In a federal lawsuit, entertainer Maren Wade claims Swift’s album “The Life of a Showgirl” infringes on her long-running trademark, “Confessions of a Showgirl.”
Wade alleges the names are too similar and target the same audience, creating confusion in the marketplace. Her branding dates back to 2014 and has been trademarked since 2015.
The lawsuit also claims federal trademark officials previously flagged potential conflicts, but Swift’s team continued using the name.
Wade is seeking to block the branding and recover profits tied to the album.
