KELY News sponsored by Sahara Motors.   The Kawasaki KX450 is built out of the box with everything you need to dominate the track. Check it out today at Sahara Motors and let the Good Times Roll.

Look for mostly fair skies and warmer weather today with a chance of isolated afternoon showers.  Today’s high around 61.

The City of Ely says traffic changes began yesterday to help ease congestion during ongoing construction projects.

As of yesterday, Clark Street will become a two-way street from 1st Street through 10th Street. The temporary change is intended to improve traffic flow during continued work on Aultman Street and the Duck Pond project.

Drivers are asked to use caution and be respectful as crews and motorists adjust to the new traffic pattern.

Questions can be directed to the City Public Works Department.

An 18-year-old California woman was killed in a rollover crash last week in White Pine County.

The Nevada Highway Patrol says troopers responded on Friday to State Route 487 near mile marker 7, just north of Baker. Investigators say a Ford Expedition left the roadway, crossed the center line, then overturned after the driver overcorrected.

Authorities say passenger Katherine Truong of San Jose, California, was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol’s Major Incident Reconstruction Team.

Problems with Nevada’s public-facing AURORA Campaign Finance Portal led to an incorrect report on Wednesday that several White Pine County candidates had failed to file required campaign finance reports. Election officials say searches by city or county are not displaying all candidates as in past years, and each candidate had to be searched individually.

Updated records now show all White Pine County candidates except one have filed on time. In the County Commission race, Robert “Mike” Simon was the only candidate reporting contributions, listing a one-thousand-dollar donation.

In the Assessor’s race, both incumbent Burton Hilton and challenger Jane Murdock filed by the deadline.

In the Sheriff’s race, Todd Fincher reported more than ten thousand dollars in donations from three contributors. Roy Allen also filed on time with no donations or spending reported. As of last night, no filing could be located for candidate Robert Whiteside.

State officials are urging voters to return their vote-by-mail ballots with plenty of time to spare.  Specifically, citizens should make sure the ballots are mailed back at least one week before the primary election.  That election is on June 9th, so there's still plenty of time.  Recent changes and budget cuts at the U-S Postal Service mean voters should not wait until the last minute.  Another option is to use a ballot drop box like the one just outside the White Pine County Justice Center.  The drop box is monitored via video camera 24 hours a day.
