Sunny skies today, wind gusts as high as 50 mph, and a high around 80. The windiness will continue for much of the weekend but the chance of rain has been dramatically reduced.
The White Pine County Commission will meet Wednesday morning at nine in the White Pine County Library Conference Room in Ely, with several key issues on the agenda.
A public hearing at nine-thirty will focus on the proposed Charters of Freedom Project, featuring the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, along with the Civil Rights Amendments. Commissioners will take public input on the proposed location and presentation format.
Commissioners are also scheduled to consider a grant agreement for improvements to the county baseball field at 13th Street and Avenue M, a finding of critical labor shortage in the District Attorney’s Office, and adoption of a county Continuity of Operations Plan.
The board will also consider a three-year GIS services agreement with Geo-Comm, not to exceed $53,474.

The White Pine County Sheriff’s Office is reporting two arrests and several active investigations from Tuesday and Wednesday.
On Tuesday, 24-year-old Ely resident Jeremy Moreno was arrested on a Seventh Judicial District Court warrant and booked without bail.
Jason Doumer, 53, of Montrose, Colorado, was arrested in connection with property damage at a county campground. He faces charges of violating a temporary protection order and disturbing the peace.
Deputies are also investigating the discovery of two deceased dogs inside an Ely residence, along with a hit-and-run accident and a reported protection-order violation.
On Wednesday, 42-year-old Ruth resident Mathew Phillipenas was arrested at a local casino on a Nevada Parole and Probation warrant. He was booked without bail.
Congress has funded ShakeAlert, a statewide earthquake early-warning system for Nevada.
The technology, already operating in California, Oregon and Washington, could give Nevadans valuable seconds to react before strong shaking arrives.
Nevada Seismological Laboratory Director Dr. Christie Rowe says sensors placed near fault lines could provide 20 to 30 seconds of warning in some areas.
That time could help people get under sturdy furniture and allow critical infrastructure to automatically take protective measures.
Rowe plans a statewide tour to identify the best locations for additional seismic sensors and help bring ShakeAlert online in Nevada.
The Ely City Council will meet Thursday, September 10th, at five p.m. at the Ely Volunteer Fire Hall.
Among the items on the agenda, council will hold a public hearing at 5:30 on proposed Community Development Block Grant projects and ideas submitted by the public.
Council will also consider establishing a new water-per-gallon fee for contractors, awarding the Orson Avenue Sidewalk Project, and awarding a bid for Phase Three of the Steptoe Valley Trap and Skeet Range Hunter Education Building.
The council will also receive an update on efforts to secure state and federal funding for Ely.

A Nevada tax preparer is heading to prison for running fraudulent tax schemes that cost the IRS more than $3.5 million.
Las Vegas tax preparer and former CPA Michael Moore was sentenced to 60 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to tax evasion, wire fraud, identity theft, and helping file a false tax return.
Prosecutors say Moore fabricated business losses and expenses to eliminate clients’ tax bills or generate large refunds, charging some clients tens of thousands of dollars.
The case is also a reminder to carefully check who prepares your taxes. Verify their credentials, ask about fees and methods, and be wary of anyone promising unusually large refunds or guaranteed tax savings.
